MIELLE: MOMENTS WITH MONIQUE VIDEO GRAPHICS
With 19th & Park, I had the privilege of designing a video graphics package for Mielle Organics’ social series, Moments with Monique, in promotion of their new and enriched Rosemary & Mint hair oil. The series is guided by founder Monique Rodriguez as she discovers more about the origins and impact of her hero product, first learning the science and ingredients with experts at London’s Kew Gardens, and then from the hairdressers and patrons who use the product at a hair salon in LA.
My task was to create a recognizable, branded suite of assets from lower-thirds to title cards, with an annotated, analog feel as if following along in Monique’s diary.

In the spirit of hand-made notetaking, I drew all the doodle accents in my sketchbook with a pink Posca marker, scanned them, and vectorized them in Adobe Illustrator, doing my best to preserve their complex edges and wonky charm of human-made art. Here they are as a complete set, each a slightly different color from the way the paint dried on the page.
For the title card, I wanted something super analog and real, and I knew that unlike the lower thirds it would stay consistent in all frames and not need to be manipulated across multiple instances so I could take more of a risk creatively. I printed out the title card I’d made on pink printer paper and photographed it in stages in the light from my studio window as I crumpled it into a ball. Then I pulled the frames into Photoshop, removed the background, and made a GIF that could be superimposed over the footage of the video.
